How to Use the BC Billing Code Generator?

Modified on Fri, 5 Dec at 6:22 PM

Billing in BC remains fragmented and poses an administrative challenge for family physicians — juggling multiple EMRs, new payment models, MSP rules can be time consuming. Claims are often rejected or missed due to time pressure. Team-based care adds new billing complexity with shared notes, telehealth and split services.

Our Goal:

Simplify the BC billing workflow by generating relevant codes, providing clear reasoning for each selection, and helping clinicians save time while maintaining compliance with provincial standards.

How it Works

1. From your Note Settings, select from one of the 3 billing models -

  • LFP -  Longitudinal Family Physician
  • NTP - New to Practice
  • FFS - Fee for Service

2. Once selected, go to the encounter SOAP note you want to generate the Billing Code for & click on the Billing icon

3. Based on the SOAP note generated, it will extract billable details, suggest billing codes along with the explanation.

FFS – Fee-for-Service / Shadow Billing

Returns:

  • ICD-9 diagnosis list

  • One MSP procedure code (or None)

  • One MSP visit code (or N/A if documentation is insufficient or bundled)

LFP – Longitudinal Family Physician

Returns:

  • ICD-9 diagnosis list

  • One LFP interaction code (clinic, virtual, home, consult, procedure-linked, etc.)

  • Optional time blocks (direct, indirect, or admin; billed per 15 min with duration noted)

NTP – New to Practice

Returns:

  • ICD-9 diagnosis list

  • One NTP encounter code (975xx) based on visit type (exam, counselling, telehealth, etc.)

  • One location code (A, L, V, H, R, U, B, W or None)

  • One procedure code if applicable
